Online-Konferenzen mit San Diego (F.A.Q)

MLE: No. Application fee is waived for our FH Kiel students.

ST: Do we really need the international passport to apply or is the standard one already necessary?
MLE: For the international part of the admission requirements- we will need to have a copy of your German passport, an official bank statement and the Alliant Financial certification.

ST: Until what date we have to send the paperwork?
MLE: It all depends when do you want to start. If you want to start on Fall 2010 then we need to start working on late July….allow 2 months and a half.

ST: Do you need this documents substantial or is a scan sufficient?
MLE: Application and letters of recommendation, copy of passport can be scanned. Bank statement, financial certification, transcripts and English cambridge, the transcripts for bachelor – need to be mailed.

ST: I don’t have the englich cambridge certificate yet. when do you need it the latest? I am enrolled for the Cambridge in June, so is this going to be a problem?
MLE: No, no problem so long as we have the Cambridge results by early August. It all depend when you want to start your studies with us….ask Cambridge how long it takes to get the results and then just plan on having it before our semester starts…

ST: A further question….when we want to start in fall…business administration….bachelor…..San Diego…..is the beginning already determined? (i mean the date)
MLE: Fall starts last week of August. Orientation to all students isthe week of the 23rd of August
MLE: Just make sure that you guys mark in the application- the degree you are appliying and the campus.

ST: What about the courses we want to take? Do we chose them when we get there?
MLE: Yes- you will have an Academic Advisor- her name is Ms. Rebecca Nieboer and she will help you select your courses.

ST: Have you got a courseplan for the different mba concentrations which we can choose?
MLE: Concentrations for the MBA are: Finance, Marketing, Strategic Management, Information and Technology Management and Sustainable Business.

ST: Marcela, the information brochure says there is an academic scholarship up to 2000 Dollar based on our grades. can you tell me anything about it?
MLE: It goes by your GPA (Grade Point Average) the higher your grades the hiher the GPA based on the matrix…that will be determined onec your admissions application and transcripts are reviewed.

ST: How many students study at the whole campus?
MLE: around 4000 in all campuses. San Diego campus the most internmational one! We have international clubes from students.

Online-Konferenz II 19.05.2010

ST: Is it right, that Rebecca Nieboer is responsible for the I-20 document?
MLE: No, the person responsible for the I-20 is Remesha Lionel

ST: Will you send the admission document by e-mail or by mail for Mexico City?
MLE: We will send decision admission package and I-20 by post.

ST: I don’t understand. do want to have the whole documents by e-mail or by post?
MLE: By post- because we need originals…you can always send copies to speed the process of starting your file, but for us to make a decision we need originals.

ST: I have a question concerning the Tuition. Can we also pay it in monthly rates?
MLE: You can work with students accounts to see alternatives of payments …but there is usually a charge for it.

ST: Will you also inform us about your decision per e-mail?
MLE: Yes, I will.

ST: Do I need the I-20 for Mexico, too?
MLE: No, I 20 for Mexico but you will need Mexican Visa.

ST: So i can send you the application form as first by mail and you can start the application process and than i send you the whole documents by post.
MLE: Yes you can do that…but it all depends how fast you would like to have a decision from us about your admissions to Alliant. We will make our decision once we get official documentation.

ST: Do you know when the semestre in summer 2011 is ending?
MLE: It always ends towards mid of August.

ST: so we have to pay it to the university at once?
MLE: No, not necessarily…you can have payment alternatives.

ST: when does the autumn semester starts in the mba-program? On 23. august or later?
MLE: August 30th.

ST: Ok, because i’ve read that there is a orientation week at 23. august? Isn’t it for us or is it not necessary?
MLE: Orientation is required for all new students.

ST: Referring to the FCE……I sent you a fotocopy by mail…..is that sufficient? (you have to know I have only one original) (the other documents I sent you are originals)
MLE: Copy of the Cambridge Test Result is fine for us.

ST: Don´t you have summer vacation?
MLE: We have summer vacation. It is from End of May to End of August of every year. It depends on whether you would like to take classes during summer.

ST: Thank you for your response to my mail in which I asked you about the possible beginnings of my MBA program. However, it still isn’t clear to me whether I can decide to start the program in Fall 1 in August or in Fall 2 in October. Could you please clarify this to me?
MLE: That depends on you…our semester is divided into two sessions….I would you to start next August as you could divide your enrollemnt in the sessions and you could also attend orientation session.

ST: It is right that the mba program ends in the end of may 2011?
MLE: It all depends how and when you enrolled into the program. Under this agreement you are required to take 8 courses with us. We have 3 semesters a year and you must register for at least 3 classes per semester (to meet immigration policies) and Summer is an option for you…you are not required to enrolled in the summer session…al ot of the Kiel students stay in SD and enjoy the beach ;))

ST: When do we have to pay the tuition?
MLE: First day of class you must pay tuition or have arrangement of payment. You will only pay for what you register ….not for the whole year.

ST: Do you offer language courses at alliant, e.g. for Spanish or Chinese?
MLE: No, unfortunately…but we have students from Spanish and Chinese speaking countries and you can arrange something with them.

ST: What kind of sport activities do you offer?
MLE: We have basketball, soccer and beaibol fields…but once in the school we can arrange you to meet with student activities…plus the beach if you want to go for a run is very close (20 min) from the school.

ST: Any tennis courts around?
MLE: No, not to my knowlede …but there are sport clubs in SD that have tennis facilities.

ST: Are there perhaps other educational institutes, where I could learn languages, which you would recommend?
MLE: Yes- there are many community colleges aroundand they all offer language courses at affordable rates.

ST: When do we have to settle the arrengement of payment. Do we have time till we arrive in San Diego?
MLE: When you arrive to SD because you will need to be officially register for classes and regisration will take place during orientation session which starts on the week of August 23rd.

ST: Are there any jobs available on the campus?
MLE: Yes, but it all depends on resorces available.

MLE: Also please note that all international students will be required to take our EPT (English Proficiency Test) during orientation session.
ST: What will happen, if the results of the EPT are not as good as desired?
MLE: Then, you will take additional English courses paid by the university. You don’t need to pay for it.
